The Sainsbury’s St Marks store in Wolverhampton, located on Raglan Street, experienced an unexpected closure for several hours on Sunday. Shoppers were advised not to visit the store during the outage. The store, along with its petrol station, has since reopened and is fully operational.

Cause of the Closure

Sainsbury’s has confirmed that the closure was due to a “systems connectivity issue” specific to this store and was not related to the recent global IT outage experienced last week. The company described it as an “isolated issue affecting only this store.”

Customer Reactions

On Sunday, customer Rebekah Katy reported that “the tills are down, the engineer has been there since 10.30 am. We asked when they would be open today, and they said they did not know.”

Global IT Outage Background

The recent global IT outage was caused by a flawed update from cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike. The update led to significant disruptions, including shops being unable to process card payments, TV channels going off-air, flights being grounded, and some healthcare systems experiencing difficulties.

Current Status

As of this morning, the Sainsbury’s store and the adjacent petrol station are open and busy. The company assures customers that the connectivity issue has been resolved and operations are back to normal.
