Hazardous Chemical Spill Identified in Walsall Canal, Public Warned to Stay Away

A hazardous chemical spill was discovered in Pleck, Walsall, on Monday, August 12, prompting serious health concerns for the local community. The spill has impacted a stretch of the canal between Spinks Bridge and Birchills Street Bridge, leading to an immediate response from local authorities.

Walsall Council has warned residents that the spill could pose a significant health risk, particularly if people or their pets come into direct contact with the contaminated water. As a precaution, the affected area has been cordoned off, and efforts are underway to contain the spill to prevent further environmental damage.

The public is being strongly advised to steer clear of the canal and nearby towpaths within the contaminated area. Anyone who may have come into contact with the water and is feeling unwell is urged to seek medical advice immediately by contacting 111 or dialling 999 in an emergency.
