Demolition Progresses at Dudley Interchange Development

Demolition work continues in Dudley town centre as part of the new bus and Metro interchange project. Over the past three months, the former supermarket and remaining bus shelters have been cleared, paving the way for the construction phase.

The interchange is being developed in conjunction with the first phase of the Wednesbury to Brierley Hill Metro line, overseen by the Midland Metro Alliance. Both the interchange and the Metro line are scheduled to open in late 2025, providing enhanced accessibility to the town centre for bus and Metro users.

Images taken before and after the demolition of the old Farm Foods store illustrate the significant changes to the site.

Jo Shore, director of delivery for Transport for West Midlands (TfWM), remarked, “The removal of the largest building on the former bus station site marks significant progress. We can now look forward to beginning construction in the coming weeks. Meanwhile, the summer fair offers a great chance for people to explore the local independent shops.”

The Dudley Interchange project is led by TfWM, part of the West Midlands Combined Authority (WMCA), in partnership with Dudley Council. It is funded by the Department for Transport through the City Region Sustainable Transport Settlement (CRSTS).

Cllr Paul Bradley, deputy leader of Dudley Council and cabinet member for economic delivery, commented, “Work on the Dudley Interchange is progressing well and is a key element of our regeneration programme for the town centre. We welcome TfWM’s plans for a family fun event later this month and encourage people to visit Dudley to support their local community and witness the transformation taking place.”
