The University of Warwick has appointed J Freeley to oversee multiple demolitions at its Westwood campus, including the graduate studies building and two vacant residential properties on Kirby Corner Road. The project, which will span 13 weeks, involves preparatory work, asbestos removal, and the manual and mechanical demolition of the buildings, including the floor slab and foundations.
In addition to demolition, J Freeley will install a new emergency staircase, fire door, and emergency lighting in an adjacent building that will remain. Upon completing the demolition, the site will be landscaped to create a beneficial space for students and staff.
Michael Freeley, director at J Freeley, emphasised the importance of minimising disturbance during the project, stating, “Carrying out demolition works in the middle of a busy campus is challenging. It is imperative that we minimise any disturbance for students, staff and the local community.” This marks J Freeley’s second project for the University of Warwick.
