Ted Baker’s Designer Outlet Store Set to Close Amidst Brand Turbulence

Ted Baker’s store at McArthur Glen Designer Outlet in Cannock is among the 31 remaining UK locations slated to close this week, marking the end of an era for the iconic British fashion brand. The closures, which will affect over 500 jobs, come as talks between Ted Baker’s owner, AUTHENTIC BRANDS, and retail tycoon Mike Ashley’s FRASERS GROUP have stalled.

This closure follows the March administration of No Ordinary Designer Label Limited (NODL), the business behind Ted Baker’s UK operations, which had already resulted in the shutdown of 15 other stores and the loss of 245 jobs. Ted Baker, which once boasted 46 stores across the UK, has struggled in recent years due to fierce competition, the rise of online shopping, and shifting consumer tastes.

Despite its challenges, Ted Baker’s intellectual property remains under the ownership of AUTHENTIC BRANDS, which is still exploring options to revive the brand. However, with the closure of the remaining stores, Ted Baker’s presence on UK high streets may be coming to an end, although its products continue to be available through select department stores and licensing agreements in Asia and the Middle East.

Rob Parker, CEO of AUTHENTIC BRANDS, expressed disappointment over the stalled negotiations and the closures but remains hopeful for the brand’s future. The Cannock store, along with the other locations set to close, was a part of the brand’s legacy, which began in Glasgow in 1988 and became renowned for its distinctive floral prints and quirky advertising.

As Ted Baker prepares to shut its doors, the company’s website bids farewell to its customers, signaling the uncertain future of this once-dominant fashion label.
