A Birmingham diner with a hunger for a challenge polished off a local restaurants whopping 72oz steak in record time.

The challenge, at the Branded Bull Steak House on Birmingham’s Broad Street, is to eat the enormous 72oz steak and sides in less than one hour.

Local resident, Graham Parkinson, took the bull by the horns and decided to take up the challenge.

Graham smashed the previous record, which was held by Ms Djgail Watkis, who finished her meal in 60 minutes during the restaurants Independence Day celebrations on 4th July.

Graham almost halved this time, by clearing his plate in just 35 minutes when he took on the challenge on 10th August.

It took him just 20 minutes to see off the steak and a further 15 to finish the sides. Not finished yet, Graham even went on to have a dessert!

For his efforts, Graham’s meal, worth £72, was completely free of charge, and he was also awarded a certificate and a £72 Branded Bull voucher towards a future meal.

The plucky diner now holds the lead in the Branded Bull Ultimate Challenge.

“I was very impressed. The steak was massive, but cooked perfectly, which is hard for a steak of this size. I enjoyed the sides too, the garlic bread and the prawns particularly.

“I’m sure I will have another, perhaps to celebrate American Independence Day or New Year. The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the staff are all very friendly. It really made the whole experience worth coming back for again and again,” Graham added.
