Midcounties Co-operative has announced the sale of two petrol forecourt sites located in Ludlow and Wombourne. The Warwick-based cooperative revealed that the decision is part of a regular review of its property portfolio to ensure alignment with the society’s long-term strategy and commitment to serving its members and local communities.
A spokesperson for Midcounties Co-op explained, “As part of this ongoing review, certain petrol forecourt sites have been identified as no longer fitting with the long-term strategy of the society. This includes the Ludlow and Wombourne sites, which the Midcounties Co-operative board has agreed to place on the market.”
Although no formal agreements have been reached, the cooperative has already received significant interest from potential buyers. The spokesperson added, “Where possible, we will be looking for purchasers who will continue to operate the site as petrol stations and convenience stores. In the meantime, the site continues to trade as normal.”
Employees who may be affected by the sale have been informed and will be kept updated on any developments, with the cooperative pledging full support during the transition.
Despite the sale of these sites, Midcounties Co-op remains committed to its food retail business, having invested over £7 million in opening 12 new stores over the past two years. The cooperative looks forward to continuing to serve its members and customers across the region.
