adminThe managing director of a Midlands recruitment firm has been recognised as a business hero at a national awards ceremony celebrating the UK’s top entrepreneurs.
TRS Personnel’s Jeff Lawrence received a Special Commendation at the Growing Business Awards, presented by BBC Business correspondent Declan Curry.
Mr Lawrence’s work was highlighted in front of an audience, which included keynote speaker Business and Enterprise Minister Mark Prisk, at the London Marriott, in Grosvenor Square.
TRS Personnel, which has offices in Telford, Wolverhampton, Stafford and Shrewsbury, works with more than 600 companies across the Midlands and has found employment opportunities for thousands of people since it launched in 2006.
Mr Lawrence, who could not attend the event after injurying his back, said was “delighted and humbled” to receive the Special Commenation in the Local Hero of Enteprise category.
Broadcaster Declan Curry said: “Nationally, there is greater understanding of the role of entrepreneurial leaders in creating wealth, jobs and economic prosperity. Our inspiration in creating this award was to recognise how such people can galvanise their local community.
“Jeff Lawrence is Shropshire born and bred. In 2006, he started his own recruitment business, with one phone and a desk. Community spirit has been at the heart of TRS Personnel since then. Wherever possible, the firm sources from local suppliers. Led by Jeff, the firm makes donations to a host of charities and community projects and of course, the business is helping thousands into work.
“This is a small business, rooted in its community, and led by an entrepreneur with an innate desire to give back.”
The nomination from branch manager Steve Wood said that Mr Lawrence had guided his team through ‘thick and thin’ to develop a business which was creating wealth and sustainable employment in the region.
Mr Lawrence added: “I was delighted to receive this recognition which was completely unexpected. However, I have to pay tribute to my team at TRS Personnel and also the companies with which we work. Helping people find employment is a collaborative effort, and one which I am proud to be a part of.
“Giving back to the community, helping good causes with donations and sponsorship, has always been part of our ethos and why we were thrilled to win the Business in the Community Award at the Shropshire Business Awards this year.”
Created in 1999 and supported by the CBI, the Growing Business Awards are the most established recognition for UK independent and entrepreneurial businesses.
Alastair Lukies, CEO and co-founder of mobile money services group Monitise, was named Entrepreneur of the Year at the awards, which are supported by the CBI.
