Worcester Bosch has committed to withdrawing and revising its misleading marketing materials after an investigation by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) revealed concerns about the company’s boiler claims. The investigation found that the brand’s promotion of its boilers as “hydrogen-blend ready” could mislead consumers into believing these products offered unique benefits.
While Worcester Bosch’s boilers can operate on a blend of up to 20% hydrogen, this capability is not exclusive, as many other models can do the same. Furthermore, the future role of hydrogen in home heating remains uncertain.
As part of the agreement, Worcester Bosch will update its marketing content and instruct its accredited installers and retailers to do the same. The CMA has also been active in addressing misleading claims across the green heating sector and has launched a consumer rights guide to help raise awareness.
Hayley Fletcher, interim senior director of consumer protection at the CMA, emphasized the importance of transparency, stating that with approximately 1.6 million boilers purchased in the UK each year, consumers must have access to clear and accurate information to make informed decisions. The actions taken against Worcester Bosch are aimed at ensuring this level of clarity in the market.
