Hobby Workshop History
Andrew Hornyak and Jamie Renwick, formed AJ Innovations Limited and founded Hobby Workshop in 2018. According to the Hobby Workshop website, Andrew and Jamie have a passion for both table top gaming and scale modelling. Hobby Workshop started as a small two-person online operation and is now a team of six friendly and knowledgeable staff. Hobby Workshop has a wide-ranging customer base, which is described as “active, loyal and passionate.”
In 2021, Andrew and Jamie opened their first walk-in store in Barnsley at Unit 16 Zenith Network Centre, Whaley Road, Barugh Green, South Yorkshire, S75 1HT. In 2022, they expanded the store with a games room featuring 10 tables to help grow a gaming community and bring like-minded people together.
In June 2025, Hobby Workshop moved to Units 7 & 8, Winston Business Park, Churchill Way, Sheffield, S35 2PS.
On the Hobby Workshop website, they said the move would allow them to expand the warehouse, increasing their product range, the depth of stock and becoming even more efficient with posting orders. The new shop is more than twice the size of the Barnsley store. The games room has been given a huge upgrade with 20 tables. It is on the ground floor making it more accessible than before, with no stairs to climb.
Hobby Workshop Opening Hours
Hobby Workshop is open Monday to Saturday. On Monday, Wednesday and Friday, the opening hours are 9.30am to 5pm. On Tuesdays and Thursdays, Hobby Workshop is open until 10pm for late night gaming. On Saturday, the hours are 10am to 5pm and it is closed on Sundays.

- Clean up after yourself using the bins provided. Staff are happy to assist if needed.
- Contact staff if you require extra terrain, game mats, or other gaming aids.
- Be ready to leave at the end of your time slot. We recommend starting to pack up 15 minutes beforehand.
- Children under 16 are welcome if accompanied by an adult to learn a game, but please note the environment is primarily for adults.
- We allow swearing in good humor and friendly banter, but always keep language and behavior respectful.
- Unaccompanied children under 16 are not permitted.
- We have zero tolerance for harassment or abuse; anyone engaging in such behavior will be asked to leave.
- In complex games, if a dispute cannot be resolved quickly, roll off and let the winner decide the outcome.
- CCTV is in operation for your safety and security.
