Today West Midlands Business News will be featuring the Hotel Indigo based in Coventry. This brand-new hotel is part of the IHG Luxury & Lifestyle group portfolio and officially opened on 24 January following a multi-million-pound project that took just 19 months to complete. This new boutique property draws inspiration from the history, rhythm, and pulse of the City of Coventry and offers guests a unique and locally inspired experience.
What’s On Offer
Hotel Indigo Coventry features 101 bedrooms, each designed around three themes reflecting Coventry’s history and its neighbourhoods. These include these such as the Spinning Wheel, Motor City, and Re-imagining & Regeneration (which is in relation to the massive rebuild the city had to endure after the bombings in the Second World War). Rooms are equipped with Hypnos beds with Egyptian cotton linen, spa-inspired bathrooms, and of course high-speed Wi-Fi, and 40” flat-screen TVs.
Cogs Restaurant & Bar
Within the hotel is the newly opened Cogs Restaurant & Bar. This bar can seat up to 100 people and the restaurant features an open and fully integrated kitchen, allowing guests to see the chefs in action. The head chef, Marek Jani, has lots of experience from his previous roles in various hotels and restaurants, while Mark Lee, the newly appointed food and beverage manager, has also worked with some of the biggest brands in the industry including the Lovely Pubs and NEC Groups.
A Prime Location in Coventry
The Hotel is set in an ideal location and is located next to Coventry Railway Station, and is ideally located for visitors looking to explore the city’s cultural attractions, including Coventry Cathedral, Coventry Transport Museum, and the Herbert Art Gallery. The hotel is also part of the larger Friargate regeneration project, set to transform the area into a bustling hub of activity and help with the city’s ongoing rejuvenation.
Helping Transform the City
Michael Lyons, General Manager of Hotel Indigo Coventry, expressed excitement about the opening, highlighting the hotel’s blend of history and contemporary elegance. He emphasised the hotel’s commitment to delivering locally inspired and innovative restaurant and bar concepts, with Cogs Restaurant & Bar positioned to become a top culinary destination in the West Midlands.
As mentioned previously the hotel’s development is part of ongoing efforts to revitalise Coventry, with the Friargate area being a key focus. While the hotel was initially expected to open during the City of Culture celebrations, delays caused by the pandemic pushed the opening to 2024. It seem it was worth the wait though as the facilities at this location are excellent.
If the plan is to attract more people to the city of Coventry then projects like the Indigo Hotel should be seen as a massive boon for those involved in trying to achieve its goal. This hotel is a truly luxurious experience and we here at West Midlands Business News hope it has the desired effect on the local community and helps bring tourism and business back to an area that over the years has needed much more investment than it had previously been given.
